Spiderman, the Marvel Comic superhero, has an arch-enemy who has eight arms -- Dr. Octo.

Nevada's senior girls basketball team must have felt like this fictional villain had four counterparts on the hardwood when they played Prescott Monday, Nov.25.

The Wolverettes posted a 57-32 win over the Lady Bluejays in the contest as everyone got to spend a little time on the court for both squads.

The Prescott five were all over the Nevada quintet from the outset with arms in the faces of any Lady Jay who happened to be in possession of the pumpkin at the time.

The two teams battled tooth and nail up and down the court in the opening eight minutes with Prescott taking a slim 14-11 lead at its conclusion.

However, in the second quarter, the Wolverette team that went to the state tournament last year showed up and dominated play.

Bodies were flying all over the court as the Wolverettes flashed to the ball, making several steals which resulted in easy baskets enroute to a 39-15 halftime advantage.

The starting five played a few minutes in the third stanza, continuing to push the lead farther and farther out of reach of the Lady Jays.

Coach Cecily Butler cleared the bench, making sure all Wolverettes saw some action as they posted a 51-22 lead after three.

Stacy Stockton led the Wolverettes with 19 points, while Laura Culpepper scorched the nets for 14 (connecting on seven of 10 shots from the field).

Stockton also canned a three and stole the ball four times. Jessica Hildebrand recorded five steals. Culpepper recorded four assists and pulled down six boards in the contest, while Lakeshia Stuckey was a thief four times.

Dilesha Easter paced the Nevada crew with nine points. Ramona was the next high scorer with five. Four other players had four points.

The problem Nevada had, according to the stat sheet, was turnovers. The Lady Jays were either forced into or accidentally turned the ball over 46 times in the game.

The Wolverettes were nine of 18 from the free throw line, while Nevada converted four of 13 from the charity stripe.

JR. LADY JAYS -- 28

CUBETTES -- 24

While the Wolverettes won their game, they were the only Prescott team to do so.

The junior Lady Jays posted a 28-24 win over their counterparts, but held a double-figure lead at one point in the final period.

The Cubettes took a 10-8 lead at the end of one, only to see Nevada respond and tie the game at 16-16 by halftime.

The Lady Jays came out ready to play in the second half, while the Cubettes failed to show early on in the third. The end result was Nevada took full advantage of this and posted a 26-18 lead as the buzzer sounded sending play into the final six minutes.

Shiheta Henry poured in 15 points for the Lady Jays, while Alexis Madison netted nine.

Sunshine Kelley led Prescott with 10 points, canning four of five in the paint.

Nevada was two of three from the stripe, while Prescott converted four of 12.

Neither team showed much in the way of ball control as Prescott was nailed for 18 turnovers, while Nevada coughed the ball up 13 times.

BLUEJAYS -- 62

WOLVES -- 40

It was an extremely rough night for Coach Hal Landrith's Curley Wolves as the Jays posted a 62-40 win.

Part of the problem Prescott had was getting a shot off against Nevada, as the Jay defense was all but impervious in the opening period.

Any time a Prescott player attempted a shot, a Jay hand was in their face.

As a result, Nevada was in control 17-3 when the first eight minutes were over.

However, the Wolves fought back somewhat in the second period, but still could not thwart the Jay offense as the hosts took a 35-18 score to the locker room at the break.

Landrith's eight-player squad fought hard, but were overwhelmed by the Nevada size and speed in the second half as well. By the end of three, the Jays led 51-30 and cruised to the victory.

Jason Webb led the visiting Wolves with 12 points.

Coach Glyndon Franklin cleared his bench, giving all Nevada players time on the hardwood. The leading scorer for the Jays was Mike Lowe with eight. Julius Gulley followed with seven, while Ricardo Young netted six.

The Jays were 16 of 28 from the lines, while Prescott converted 16 of 23.

GURDON -- 57

WOLVERETTES -- 40

Prescott's Jekyll and Hyde senior girls squad hit the court Tuesday, Nov. 26 against the Lady Devils of Gurdon in a junior varsity contest.

However, the team that played against Nevada the night before failed to show in this game as the Lady Devils posted a 57-40 win.

The Wolverette offense failed to show in the first period as Gurdon took a 16-8 lead.

Neither team shot well in the second quarter as the Lady Devils remained in command 21-11 at intermission.

The situation worsened in the third frame as the Prescott defense took the quarter off while Gurdon poured in 21 more points and the Lady Devil defense gave up 14 to lead 42-25.

Both teams scored 15 in the final period, though the Lady Devils pushed the lead above 20 at one time, and the Wolverettes cut the score to low double-figures as well.

Stockton led the Wolverettes with 15 points, while Jessica Hildebrand contributed 11. Leslie Hines netted seven, while Kaci Ammons scored three. Culpepper and Gladies Gulley scored two each.

Tameka Hatley had the hot hand for Gurdon as she poured in 19 points. Alicia Clayborn followed suit with 13.

Gurdon was eight of 10 at the line, while Prescott converted 13 of 20.

To say the Wolverettes had an off night offensively would be obvious as they hit a scant 13 of 63 from the field.

GURDON -- 61

WOLVES -- 53

A slow start offensively hurt the Curley Wolves against the Go-Devils as they fell 61-53 after having early defeated the Gurdon team.

But, while Prescott's offense was sluggish in the first quarter, Gurdon's wasn't.

The Devils were unkind hosts as they took a 21-9 lead after one.

However, Prescott's offensive machine woke up in the second period, outscoring Gurdon 13-10, but still trailing 31-22 at the half.

Both squads kept shooting well in the third frame, with the Wolves again winning the period 13-12, but still on the wrong side of the score at 43-35.

Jason Webb was the Wolf offense as he ripped the nylon for 24 points on the night to lead all scorers. Scott Hobbs did his job with 11 points. Jason Morrow did his damage from long range with a pair of three-pointers.

Mario Charles led the Devils with 14 points, as one of four Gurdon players in double figures. Terry Cornish and Corey Marsh each netted 11, while Eric Hatley added 10 for the win.

Both teams hit six free throws, with Prescott getting 14 shots from the line and Gurdon taking 15.

CUBS -- 45

JR. DEVILS -- 37
