Prescott's Curley Cubs fought their way to the finals of the Blevins Tournament, but were unable to bring the title home.

The Cubs opened play in the tourney by whipping Spring Hill 43-24, in a game dominated by Prescott.

The Cubs opened with a 13-6 lead, maintaining the seven-point spread at 21-14 at the half, before pushing it to 11 by the end of three at 31-20.

Matt Brannon paced the Cubs with 13 on the night, while Brian Woodley netted nine.

S. Seward led the Bears with 12.

The Cubs converted six of 13 free throws, while Spring Hill was five of six at the line.

HOPE 32

Game two was more of a struggle for the Cubs as they escaped the Hope Bobkittens 34-32.

Again, though, the Cubs were able to maintain a lead throughout the contest.

Prescott led 10-8 at the end of one and were up 19-14 at halftime. When the buzzer ended play in the third stanza, the Cubs held a nine- point lead at 30-21.

Though the Kittens rallied, the Cubs refused to lose.

Woodley and Calvin Flemons carried the load for Prescott with 10 each.

Muldrew netted 10 for Hope.

Free throws were a problem for the Cubs as they shot a woeful eight for 22.

Hope's Kittens, however, did much better, connecting on five of nine.

ARKADELPHIA 29

Arkadelphia's Beavers had a slightly longer road to the finals, but got there by whipping Emmet, Nevada and Gurdon.

This set up their date with Prescott Saturday night for all the marbles.

For the first 12 minutes, the teams battled evenly. The game was tied 7-7 at the end of one, and the Beavers held a slender 15-13 lead at the break.

However, the taller Beavers pulled away in the third, posting a 23-17 lead.

The Cubs responded in the final frame, battling from eight points down at one time to within two with less than a minute remaining in the contest.

Unfortunately, with time running out, the Cubs were unable to find the hole. Prescott missed free throws as well as field goals when they were needed most.

Andrew Fellows and Woodley led the Cubs with 10 each.

Macon paced Arkadelphia with 11.

From the line, the Cubs shot seven of 15, while the Beavers hit six of 12.
