McFadden Is Selected As Michigan Pre-Teen Queen

Michelle McFadden took home the title for Pre-Teen Michigan (junior divison) Scholarship and Recognition Program recently.

The contest was held in Lansing, Mich. She received a $1,000 educational bond, monogrammed banner, Pre-Teen America medallion, and paid entry and travel allowances for the 1997 Pre-Teen America National competition to be held in Knoxville, Tenn.

She also received trophies for 1996 Pre-Teen Michigan, ad sales, semi-finalist, participation and best on stage review.

Miss McFadden will also be an honored guest at the 1997 Pre-Teen Michigan event with her hotel accommodations and meals included, as well as the guest to at least three other Pre-Teen Michigan state events.

Pre-Teen Michigan is a by-invitation-only scholarship and recognition event. Only young ladies ages 7-12 years of age in the top 10% ranking in the state academically are invited to participate. In addition, girls are invited who have been recognized publicly for their outstanding personal achievements, leadership abilities or creative talents.

The contestants were judged in seven individual judging categories: communicative ability; on-stage expressiveness and overall pre-teen image; general knowledgeablity; academic achievement; volunteer service to church and community; school honors and activites; and development of personal skills and abilities.

Miss McFadden is nine years old and is in the fifth grade. She is the daughter of James and Ollie Ruth McFadden, formerly of Prescott; and the granddaughter of the late Ollie V. Blake of Prescott.

She had the experience of meeting and making friends with other outstanding young ladies from throughout the state. It was a memorable and very exciting expereince that she says she will always remember.
