Lions Club Auction Is Thursday, FridayPublished Wednesday, December 11, 1996 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe annual Prescott Lions Club Christmas Auction is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, beginning each night at 6:00. The items for auction will range from an autogrpahed basketball football from the 1996 Arkansas Razorbacks, ceramic tile entrance way, scholarships for University of Arkansas at Hope, to certificates for gas or food. The money collected enables the Lions Club to aid various groups throughout the community. During 1996 the Prescott Lions Club has given a $1,000 scholarship for a graduating senior, $600 to aid in purchasing a computer program for the alternative school, $1,000 for the Breadbasket and Homeless Shelter, $350 for `Henry's Lights' at the courthouse, $250 to sponsor a Little League baseball team, $540 for the PCFA.ORG (free Internet line), $100 to 4-H, $250 to Boy Scouts of America, and $1,000 for chairs for the fairground. Other involvements included a banner for drug awareness at Prescott Elementary School, glasses, PHS band booster, Prescott Middle School, Prescott Shuttle, World Service for the Blind, Mid-South Sight Services, presidential classroom at Nevada School and Prescott Athletic Booster Club. All items in the auction have been donated by merchants in the surrounding area. If you would like to donate an item, contact a member of the Lions Club or just bring it to the courthouse. Auctioneer Jim Self will be conducting the auction again this year. Everyone is urged to come to the Nevada County Courthouse to get those last minute Christmas presents and help the Lions Club support the community.
