Woman Identified By NCSOBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 11, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune By JOHN MILLER Jane Doe has been identified. On Nov. 25, the Nevada County Sheriff's Office got a call concerning a young woman at Exit 46. According to Nevada County Sheriff Harold Vines, a truck driver had allegedly picked the young woman up at a Flying J truck stop in Missouri, letting her off in Prescott. The NCSO worked almost two weeks to find out the girl's identity, before learning her name to be Paulisha Corinne Odell. Vines said Odell has been in mental institutions in Arkansas and Texas, and had apparently been released from Arkansas' state mental hospital before turning up here. "They released her Nov. 22," he said. "They put her on a bus to Denton, Texas." According to Vines, Odell is supposed to have relatives in Hurst, Texas, and possibly in Paris, Ark. None, however, were reached by press time. Prior to learning who she was, Odell gave officers the name of Kasey Odell, saying she was from Demming, New Mexico and from North Little Rock. But every lead she gave officers turned out to be false. At one point, Vines thought she could be identified as a woman wanted for murder in Texas, until the suspect in question had a tattoo of a long-stemmed rose on the wrong ankle. Odell, 5-5, weighing about 130, has a tattoo of a long-stemmed rose on the inside of her left ankle, Vines said. The suspect wanted in Texas, had the tattoo on her right ankle. Vines held Odell for her own welfare as she could not tell anyone who she was or where she was from. He said when she was brought to the NCSO, she had no shoes and the temperatures outside were freezing. Vines has been working with authorities to have Odell returned to the state mental hospital on a 45-day court order. He said she was apparently on one of these orders when the hospital released her last month. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
