Jobless Rate At 2 Percent

Published Wednesday, December 11, 1996 in the Gurdon Times

The Clark County Industrial Council announced last week that Clark County maintained for the month of October the lowest unemployment rate in the state of Arkansas. This is the second time this year that Clark County has set the lowest rate for the state. Clark County's rate of 2.0% was the lowest rate of the year and was lower than Washington, Saline, Scott and Yell counties which have also continued to have low rates. The closest was Washington County with 2.6%. State Representative Percy Malone stated he was very pleased with this good news. "Our efforts to bring industry to Clark County, and provide work for the citizens of our county is paying off and now we are seeing the fruits of our labor," Malone said. "We will continue to do what we can to bring industry to this county, so that our people can stay and work." Clark County Industrial Council President Brown Hardman stated he was pleased to hear this good news as well. "We will continue to work hard to make sure that the citizens of our county and surrounding area have a good place to work and raise their families," Hardman said. "I believe that we will be able to continue to make announcements like we have today."
