James William SublettPublished Wednesday, December 11, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesJames William `Bill' Sublett passed away July 22, 1996, in McAllen, Texas. He was born November 8, 1911, in Whelen Springs. He was the son of Allen `Buddy' and Fannie Hardin Sublett; He was grandson of William M. and Hattie Stiffler Sublett. He attended Whelen springs School. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 38 years of service, spending seven months of that time in a German prison camp. He received the Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Presidential Citation and Destinguished Flying Cross. He is survived by a son, Jimmy, of Cotton Valley, La., and a daughter, Beverly, of Las Vegas, Nev., and several grandchildren. His death was due to cancer and heart problems.
