Music Scholarship Auditions ScheduledPublished Wednesday, December 11, 1996 in the Gurdon TimesThe Division of Music of the Bernice Young Jones School of Fine Arts at Ouachita Baptist University will host its annual music scholarship auditions for entering 1997-98 freshmen and transfer students on February 6 and February 20 at Mabee Fine Arts Center. Music scholarships from Ouachita are available to students pursuing degrees in music in areas of performance, including keyboard, vocal and instrumental. Band scholarships are also available to students who are not planning to major in the field of music. The audition will be heard by several faculty members in the auditioning student's applied area. Committee members will listen for basic elements of music talent to include rhythm, tone quality, pitch and technique, along with musicality and potential of the auditionee. An audition accompanist will be available for student's auditions. Using an accompanist is preferable to using a taped accompaniment. Vocal students are to prepare two selections, one of which should be an art song. Keyboard students should prepare three classical selections. Instrumental or band students should prepare two selections. All state band music is acceptable. Students who cannot attend either of the two scheduled dates for auditions should contact the Ouachita Division of Music office for auditions by appointment.
