Residents Being Urged To Put Up New Home AddressesBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 18, 1996 in the Gurdon Times Things are going so smoothly for the county it's almost frightening. Clark County Judge Grady Runyan said everything is quiet in the county, and the budget process for next year went as smooth as silk for the first time in years. "There were no hangups," he said. "The court worked together on it and I'm proud of the way things are going now." He said with four or five new justices of the peace joining the quorum court next year, everything is looking good. These people, he said, will be welcome additions to the county's governing body. Once everyone is sworn in on Jan. 1, 1997, Runyan said the county will begin putting up new road signs for the 911 emergency telephone system. He said the county has a sign shop and has been making these signs for this purpose. However, Runyan said the people in the county need to put their new 911 addresses in three-inch letters somewhere emergency people can see them, either on mailboxes, their homes or posts near their houses. Anywhere they can be seen at night. "This is an emergency system," Runyan said, "designed to get help where it's needed as quickly as possible. The people need to get busy and get their 911 addresses up so they can be found easily." The 911 equipment has already been installed at the Clark County Sheriff's Office and Arkadelphia Police Department. It has been tested since November by utilizing an 811 number. However, when the system officially goes on line in early January, people will need to remember and use 911 for emergencies. The only other problem the county is experience at this time concerns the annexation for the courthouse. Runyan said he doesn't know when the project will be let for bid, because the architect, Jerry Simmons with Twin Rivers Architects, keeps making excuses as to why plans are not ready yet. Runyan said Simmons has stated he's having problems with the electrical and heating and air conditioning plans. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
