Water Line Replaced In City LimitsBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 18, 1996 in the Nevada County Picayune It took crews longer than expected to get the water turned back on Thursday, Dec. 12. According to Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor, crews with 4M Construction of Arkadelphia, ran into a problem laying 900 linear feet of waterline Thursday because of a cave-in. Taylor said the cave-in caused the line already laid to be knocked out of alignment. The workers had to dig out the caved-in portion and re-lay the pipe so it would match up properly all along the new length. This took about two hours to complete. Water to city residents was shut off at 8 a.m., the mayor said, and turned back on around 7 p.m. Taylor said the new PVC pipe replaced 50-year-old metal pipes which had ruptured several times last summer, causing repeated water problems for customers. The city did a cost estimate before replacing the old water line, Taylor said, and found it could be done for about $42,000. The entire job took a week, he said. The new water line was laid near Baker's Best Stop along the railroad to the First United Pentecostal Church and on to Potlatch. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
