Marine Pvt. Aimie C. Simpson, daughter of Charlene A. Mette of Prescott, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.

Simpson successfully completed 11 weeks of training designed to challenge new marine recruits both physically and mentally.

Simpson and fellow recruits began their training at 5:00 a.m. by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Simpson spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat nad assorted weapons training.

Simpson and fellow recruits worked as a team to solve a number of tactical problems during the program. They performed close order drill and operate as a marine small infantry unit in the field.

Simpson and other recruits was received instruction on the Marine Corps' core values: honor, corage and commitenet and what the words mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.

Simpson joins 41,000 men and owmen who will enter the Marine Corps this year from all over the country.

She is a 1996 graduate of Prescott High School.
