Mary McArty Neel

Mary McArty Neel, 90, of Arkadelphia died Tuesday, December 17, 1996, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.

She was born January 9, 1906, in Curtis, the daughter of the late Thomas Oliver and Eliza Elizabeth Daniel McArty. She was a retired school teacher and administrator.

She graduated in 1935 from Henderson State Teachers College and received her masters in 1956. She taught in the Arkadelphia School District for 31 years and served as elementary school principal for 15 years until retirement in 1971.

She was a member of Cappa Cappa Tota, Arkansas Retired Teacher Association and lifetime member NEA and AEA. She was a member of First Baptist Church for 60 years, where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She married James Alvert (Big Buddy) Neel in 1935, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 19, at First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia with Dr. Kevin Lee and Col. Jack Kin officiating. Interment was in Richwoods Cemetery under the direction of Murry-Ruggles Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church building fund.
