Two Gurdon residents decided not to take their chance with a jury trial and worked out plea agreements on drug charges recently.

According to court records, Julius Marks, 46, and Micki Fields, 27, pled guilty to charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, namely crack cocaine.

Marks also pled guilty to one count of possession drug paraphernalia.

Fields had a third charge she pled guilty to, forgery second degree, in addition to the possession of drug paraphernalia.

Marks was sentenced to 180 months for the drug charge and 120 months for the paraphernalia charge.

Fields was sentenced to 120 months each for the drugs and paraphernalia, and another 60 months for the forgery charge. She was on probation at the time of the arrest.

According to records, an officer observed Marks sell crack cocaine to two individuals through the back door of his home on March 28, 1996.

Officers then announced their presence and entered the structure, finding 25 rocks of a substance which proved to be crack cocaine on the kitchen table.

Marks and Fields were subsequently arrested at the scene by members of the Gurdon Police Department, Clark County Sheriff's Office and Drug Task Force.

Possession of crack cocaine with intent to deliver is a class Y felony, carrying a possible sentence of 10 to 40 years or life. The paraphernalia charge is a class C felony with a 3-10 year sentence and fine of no more than $10,000.

The sentences will be served concurrently.
