All Blood Needed

Published Wednesday, August 4, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

The American Red Cross Blood Services is in critical need for all blood types. All persons are urged to donate blood immediately at a Red Cross donor center.

Currently inventory levels are drastically low for all blood types. Red Cross normally operates with a three-day supply of blood. Due to increased usage and decreased summer month donations, this appeal for blood is extremely critical, according to Angela Parker, communications specialist for Red Cross Blood Services.

"Types O positive, O negative, B positive and B negative are down to less than a one a day supply," Parker said. "AB plasma is also critically low, with less than a half day supply on hand. Other Red Cross regions are suffering from the same shortages, which further limits our ability to supply Arkansas' hospitals with the blood they need."

Donors must be a healthy person at least 17 years of age and weighing at least 110 pounds.
