Fisher To Be HonoredPublished Wednesday, January 8, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneArkanssa State Treasurer Jimmie Lou Fisher will be honored as Easter Seals' 1997 Arkansan of the year on February 7 at a reception and dinner at Arkansas' Excelsior Hotel in Little Rock. The Arkansan of the year award recognizes outstanding Arkansans who have made significant contributions to the state. Fisher has been an active member of numerous state boards and political groups since the mid- 70s. A native of Delight, the State Treasurer's alma maters include Arkansas State University and Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School for Government. She has served as State Treasurer since 1980 and served as the Greene County Treasurer from 1971 to 1978. Past honorees include Patti Upton, founder of Aromatique, Inc., George Mitchell, retired president of Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Don Tyson, J.B. and Johnelle Hunt, the late Herschel Friday, U.S. Representative Ray Thornton, Mack McLarty, Walter Smiley and U.S. Senators David Pryor and Dale Bumpers. According to ticket committee co-chairmen Blanche Lambert Lincoln and Terry Renaud, tickets for the event can be obtained for $125 per person or $1,250 per table of ten by calling the Arkansas Easter Seal Society at 1-800-527-2033. For 53 years, the Arkansas Easter Seal Society has offered cost effective, family-centered rehabilitation and support services that help children and adults with disabilities increase independence.
