PMS Magic Teams TriumphPublished Wednesday, January 8, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayunePrescott Middle School turned out some winners in December from its gifted and talented (MAGIC) class. The class won a couple of trophies for their efforts. MAGIC class sent three junior high Quiz Bowl teams to compete at the Bright Start Quiz Bowl Tournament on December 10 and 11. The fifth and sixth grade elementary team played on the 10th and won one game. The players were Josie Niemyer, Jared Beck, Katie McCauley, Lauren Harris, Aquino Arnold and Angelica Walters. They did a great job, according to school officials. Teams from seventh, eighth and ninth grades competed on the 11th. The seventh grade team competed in a seventh grade mini-tournament and after winning three games they won the first place trophy. Players on the seventh grade team were Jonathan Wish, Aaron Jennings, Chris Glass, Max Kisselburg, Toby Bullock, Brandon Ellis and Brandon Kirby. The eighth and ninth grade team won a second place trophy by winning four games in the regular tournament. The players were rotated throughout the four games. Players were Joey Wyman, Josh Bullock, Jessica Hunt, April Campbell, Angela McGough, Mistie Holly, Britnie McCauley, Traci Graham, Brett Wish and Russell Niemyer. The teams were coached by gifted and talented (G/T) teachers Phillip Holthoff and Sheila Jennings and were cheered on by Karen Jobe, a school bus driver.
