Hippy Group Meets

The first HIPPY (Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters) Group Meeting for Clark County Youth Development Center was held on Tuesday, December 17, 1996, in the Cafeteria at 810 South 5th Street in Gurdon

Parents are requested to meet on a monthly bases to receive instruction and the necessary skills and techniques needed from the weekly lessons introduced to ensure a successfull learning experience to benefit the children that are enrolled in the program.

During the meeting, the parents were divided into groups to role play the lesson to be introducted for the next week. The Home Visitors monitored the activity and provided assistance as necessary, while the parents were participating in the group activities, such as games, coloring, and listening to Christmas stories, conducted by volunteers.

The highlight of the evening was a visit by Santa Claus. The parents and children assembled in the cafeteria for this part of the program. The role of Santa Claus was played by Mr. Earl Briscoe, Vice President of the Board of Directors for Clark County youth Developments Center. Several pictures of the children and parents were taken. Some of the pictures showed parents role playing and children visiting with Santa Claus.

Each child received a gift and Christmas bag, consisting of fruits and toys, parents also received fruit bags.

Refreshments were served to all present. A very enjoyable time was reported by everyone.
