Three Appointed To AIDC Board By Governor

Governor Mike Huckabee has appointed three people to the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission.

The governor appointed former U.S. Rep. John Paul Hammerschmidt of Harrison, Mike Akin of Monticello and Carl Rosenbaum of Little Rock to the 16-member commission.

Hammerschmidt replaced Chick Boren of Fort Smith, Akin replaced Eddie Holt of Crossett and Rosenbaum replaced Don Beavers of Little Rock.

The terms of Hammerschmidt, Akin and Rosenbaum will expire January 14, 2001.

Hammerschmidt, 74, served 13 terms (1967-92) as congrssman from the Third Congressional District. Since his retirement from Congress, Hammerschmidt has been chairman of the Northwest Arkansas Council. He served on the board of Southwestern Energy Co., Dillard Department Stores Inc. and First Bank of Arkansas.

He is on the board of the University of the Ozarks at Clarksville and the board of advisors for Winrock International.

Akin, 40, is president of Akin Industries in Monticello. His company manufactures furniture for nursing homes and hospitals.

He was a district manager for Arkla Gas Co. from 1984-88. He is a graduate of McClellan High School in Little Rock and attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Akin is a member of the board of Heartland Bank and a charter member of Arkansas Wood Manufacturers Association. He has served on the board of the Monticello Chamber of Commerce and the Drew County Chapter of the United Way. He is a past chairman of the Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival.

Akins' wife is the former Susan Coppenger of Arkadelphia.

Rosenbaum, 62, is chairman of Arkansas Glass Container Corp. in Jonesboro and president of Glass Energy Inc. in Little Rock.

He is a partner in Rosenbaum Brothers, a partnership that manages property.

He attended Little Rock Public Schools and received his high school degree from Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tenn. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas.

Rosenbaum is a life board member of Youth Home Inc., a past board member of Citizens Bank in Jonesboro, a board member of First Commercial Bank of Little Rock and president of Community Concerts of Greater Little Rock.
