Two PHS Curley Wolves Named To All-State Team

Published Wednesday, January 15, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune

Rashad Johnson and Cedric Flemons of Prescott have been named to the All-State football squad, according to coach Eddie Jackson.

After a successful 12-2 football campaign that ended in the final four, several Curley Wolves have been awarded post-season honors.

In a meeting of the 7AA coaches in mid-November the Wolves placed five men on the first and second all-conference teams.

Flemons for the second consecutive year was voted as the district's outstanding lineman.

Named to first team honors were Johnson, defensive back and wide receiver; Flemons, tight end and defensive end; James Williams, center and defensive end; Sam Marlow, tailback and strong safety; and Terrell Burton, offensive lineback and defensive lineman.

Earning second team places were Kyron Johnson, offensive lineman and defensive lineman; Channing Butler, defensive back and wide receiver; Brian Vanhook, offensive lineman and linebacker; Carlos Vanhook, fullback and linebacker; and Al Johnston, quarterback and free safety.

In the AA coaches meeting held in Little Rock on December 20, Flemons and Johnson were added to the all-state football squad. "Flemons was named to this team as a junior and should have a great chance of being selected to the AHSCA all-star game in August," Jackson said.

Earlier in this same week last December, Johnson was selected to the 32-man KARK Friday Night Flights all-star team. He, his parents and Coach Jackson were guests at the "tailgate party" on December 16 at the KARK studio in Little Rock.

During the Christmas holiday, the Texarkana Gazette came out with its selections for the Ark-La-Tex area teams. Flemons was named as the defensive player of the year.

Selected on the All-Southwest Arkansas area offensive team were Williams, center, and Johnson, wide receiver. Terrell Burton, noseguard, and Sam Marlow, strong safety, were named to the all-area defensive team.

These men will join all of their teammates at the football banquet on Thursday, January 30, where they will be recognized in public.
