SAU Plans First Play Of 1997

The Theatre Department at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia will present its first play of 1997 entitled "Baggy Pants." The play will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, January 28 through February 1, in Harton Theater.

"Baggy Pants" is an affectionate tribute to the American variety stage and to the classic baggy pants comedians and show girls in those glorious days.

The play is directed by and stars Carbonell Nominee Michael L. Walters. Walters is an alum of SAU and returned to the SAU stage last spring to star in "The Honeymooners."

A percentage of the proceeds from every ticket sold will go to the Jerry V. Cortex scholarship for academic enrichment.

In addition to Walters, the play features Nikisha McDaniel, a senior pre-chiropractic major from Magnolia; Katrina Gosdin, a junior theatre major from Magnolia; Leslie Brown, a sophomore theatre major from Waldo; Josh Gaines, a sophomore from Emerson; and Tara Story, a sophomore mass communication major from Emerson.

Baggy Pants also stars Philip Smith, a freshman theatre major from Stephens; Heather Johnson, a sophomore elementary education major from Camden,; Laurie Kelley, a junior English education major from Camden; David Lindsey, a sophomore HKR major from Camden; Latrisha McDuffie, a sophomore theatre major from El Dorado; Tracy Todd, a junior English education major from El Dorado; Sonnet Kopecky, a senior mass communication major from Prescott; and Derrick Sanders, a senior business adminstration major from Marianna.
