Oak Grove

We are still having some extremely hot weather. I have never seen such hot weather before. God is letting us know how hot it will be in hell. If we can't live together down here and say we are Christians we better read our Bible. God loves everybody. If we want to see God, we better do what the Bible tells us.

You will be surprised who all takes the Picayune People from California, Chicago, Michigan and Little Rock. It makes me feel like I am doing service to the people of Oak Grove community and the other communities.

Many years ago, when Mr. Wahlquist was editor, I almost won a car selling subscriptions to the Picayune. I did win a rocking chair; I was second runner-up. I have been around a long time. Sometimes I feel like giving up. I meet people on the street in Prescott and some tell me that they read my column in the paper almost every week. And when I do not write anything they will ask why I didn't have anything in this week's paper.

I was the first foster parent in Nevada County. I was one for almost a year. Even though my doctor asked me not to. He said I would get attached to them and it hurts. My first two were from Fort Smith. When they left I cried and they cried and cried. They didn't want to go. I had some good children. I did not keep a record how many I kept. I did not adopt Johnny, but he always felt he was at home with us. We felt the same about him. I adopted Hosea. We have three nieces and three nephews on whom we can count on anytime, day or night. They all came to see us Friday. One was from Oakland, Merlyn Freddy and Addie Steve Dixon is from Mineral Springs. Addie Steve is on the city police force in Mineral Springs. They all are doing fine for themselves.

Saturday, Rev. L.Z. and Arsteen Young and stopped by and Joe Hale and wife from Little Rock, Mr. and Mrs. Young was from Chicago.

Rev. Young had prayed that George would feel better. They were just out of their family reunion. They all had a good time together.

Our annual homecoming will be held at New Salem AMC Church Sunday, August 8. That was my stomping ground. Just three members trying to keep things together, Gerdie B. and Henry and Corine Morgan. They are sick. I am the secretary of homecoming. Rev. D.R. Gulley will preach Sunday morning. Rev. Jerry Bishop will bring the afternoon message. We are looking for all the people, who have loved ones buries over there, to help us keep the cemetery looking nice. Each family can pay $20 for upkeep. We need your help. Some have sent their dues already. We are looking to have a good time. See you Sunday at New Salem, I hope.
