IBM Donated To Nevada

Published Wednesday, January 22, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune

Nevada School District was a recent recepient of an IBM mini-main frame computer system through the generosity of a former teacher of the old Cale School District.

The donation was made by Reed McConnell, who taught school at Cale in the late 1930s and early 1940s and has since been in the construction business in North Little Rock. His company is one of the largest apartment builders in the state.

According to superintendent Rick McAfee, this is not the first significant donation McConnell has made to the Nevada School District.

"When we consolidated, McConnell donated the large sign at the main entrance to the campus," McAfee said. "Some computers and other electronic equipment were also donated by him."

McConnell has asked that the latest donation be in memory of Spencer Benton who was on the Cale School board when he was first employed. Benton was the father of Davis Benton, who is currently president of the Nevada School board and region 12 director of the Arkansas School Boards Assocation.
