Stephens' Roadrunners were run down and feasted upon by the Nevada BlueJays, Friday, Jan. 17.

The three Jay teams all posted wins against their league rivals as the regular season winds down toward district play.

The senior boys team pounded Stephens 59-48 in the night's final contest.

The Jays opened the game with a 10-8 first period lead, but saw Stephens rally in the second to go ahead 25-21. This was the last time Stephens led.

In the third quarter, the Jays flew high in recording a 41-33 score and added to their lead in the final eight minutes for the win.

Joseph Young led the Jays with 16 points. Julius Gulley contributed 10 in the victory, while Casey Curtis added nine.

Robert Turner was unstoppable for Stephens, as he poured in 26 points to lead all scorers in the game. However, aside from the 12 scored by Rashawn Staten, no other members of the team did much.

Both teams shot eight free throws, with Nevada hitting five and Stephens converting four.

By halftime, the Lady Jays were up 19-14, and held a 30-24 lead at the end of three.

Dilesha Easter played string music to the tune of 16 points to lead Nevada's offense, while Ramona Evans was hot on her heels with 14 points. Shonda Young added 12 in the win as well.

Tyronda Ross was the lone member of the Stephens team to break double figures, as she scored 10.

Nevada was 15 of 29 from free throw land, while Stephens netted 12 of 20 freebies.

At the end of one, Nevada led 9-4, pushing this to a 17-7 halftime lead. The third quarter saw the Lady Jays in command 25-19 as they coasted in for the win.

The Lady Jays were five of 17 from the charity stripe, while Stephens only hit three of nine.

The Jays will host Stamps Friday night with three games on tap. The evening will begin with the junior girls taking center court at 5:30, followed by the senior girls and senior boys.
