Club NewsPublished Wednesday, January 22, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneRedland EH Club Tuesday afternoon, January 7, Redland Club members met in the fellowship hall of the Liberty Church for its monthly meeting. The group was called to order by President Marie McNeely. Club Collect was given by Ruby Bidwell. The devotion, "A Time For Inventory," was by Evelyn Hooks. Prayer was by Mary Cox. Roll call by Julene Hulan was answered by "How can I be a better volunteer?" Door prize was won by Marie McNeely. The club members voted to assist the patients at Hillcrest Care Center Tuesdasy, February 25, and also make some bibs for the home. A very interesting program on preventing elder isolation and self-neglect was given by Ruby Bidwell. The club hasn't had a meeting in July for the last few years. Club members voted to have a July meeting this year with a potluck lunch. They also voted to give a little donation to the Liberty Church for the use of the fellowship hall. Delicious refreshments were served by Ruby Bidwell and Julene Hulan. Next meeting will be February 4. Sis. Betty Stinson and Lucille Russell will be the hostesses. Bluff City EHC The Bluff City Extension Homemakers Club met Thursday night, January 16, with 13 members present. The regular meeting, which was scheduled the preceding week, was cancelled due to bad weather. Several members were ill or had illness in the family and were unable to attend. We wish them a speedy recovery. Marguerite Tomlin, the club president, called the meeting to order. The door prize was won by Becky O'Neal. Marguerite mentioned that the two Prescott nursing homes were in great need of bibs for the residents there. The suggested size was 12x24 inches and anyone wishing to make one or more could do so and bring to the February meeting. She said she had been contacted recently by someone requesting a goulash recipe that can be canned. If any of you happens to have one you may wish to contact Marguerite in Bluff City. Members were also asked to keep a list of volunteer work they do for the community during the 1997 fiscal year, which began in October of 1996. The state Extension club meeting this year will be at Harding University in Searcy. It will be June 10, 11 and 12. There will be a fee of $55 for the cost of the room and food. More information is available. January 31 is the date for a workshop at the Extension office in Prescott. The theme "Have more with decorating with less." All members are encouraged to attend if at all interested. Vernell Lowe and Tanya Fort were this month's leaders and presented a program so informative and shocking that there was hardly a dry eye in the group. It was about "Preventing Elder Isolation and Self Neglect" of nursing home residents. Thank you, ladies, for bringing this information to us in such a heart warming and professional manner. It will be long remembered. Roll call was answered by each one telling how they can be a better volunteer, which leads us to suggest everyone should add one extra thing to do for someone this month that we may not have done otherwise, and inform us at next month's meeting.
