Johnstons To Be At Local Church

Revs. Pat and Gordon Johnston are career assignment missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene. They are assigned to the eastern Mediterranean field and reside in Jordan.

The Johnstons will be at Prescott's First Church of the Nazarene at 220 W. 2nd Street in on Thursday, September 9, at 7 p.m. The public is invited.

Gordon Johnston received his B.A. degree from Pasadena (Calif.) College in 1964. He received the M.A. degree in 1995 from Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego, Calif.

He was ordained in the Los Angeles District.

Pat Johnston received her B.A. degree in elementary education from Pasadena College in 1963. She received her M.A. degree in education from California State University in Los Angeles in 1967.

She was ordained as a deacon in the Los Angeles District in 1990.

In 1969 the Johnstons went to Beirut, Lebanon, where they both taught in the Ashrafiyya and Sin-el-Fil Nazarene Schools, as well as worked with the district youth and children's programs. Pat directed the Arabic literature committee.

The Johnstons were forced to leave Beirut in 1975 because of civil war, and were reassigned to Amman, Jordan, where they stayed until 1980. In 1981, they transferred to Papua, New Guinea (PNG). After serving as Nazarene Hostel parents at the home for missionary children in Ukarumpa, they both taught at the Melanesian Nazarene Bible College in Mt. Hagen.

In 1982 Gordon was appointed as mission director for the Church Growth and Education Council, a position produced in Pidgin English.

The Johnstons returned to the Middle East in 1995.

Gordon is the director of the Eastern Mediterranean Nazarene Bible College and Pat is the director of the Arabic publications program.

Pat is a freelance writer, and has had articles published in World Mission, Herald of Holiness, Come Ye Apart and Holiness Today. She wrote a 1994-95 NWMS reading book titled Changed Hearts, Changed Lives. Her book, City of Fear, is a 1999-2000 children's NWMS reading book. She is presently writing another adult NWMS book for the 2000-2001 cycle.
