Deadline Is February 28Published Wednesday, January 29, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesFebruary 28 is the final date for a producer to obtain multi-peril crop insurance for 1997 corn, sorghum, cotton and soybeans. March 31 is the final date for rice. Crop insurance is no longer required, but a waiver must be on file to be eligible for USDA benefits. Producers are encouraged to maintain their crop insurance in case of a loss or disaster on insurable crops. Since catastrophic (CAT) policies are continuous unless successfully cancelled by the company or the producer, you should review your copy of the 1996 crop insurance contract to make sure all crops you intend to produce in 1997 are listed. This is for previously insured producers only. Your Farm Service Agency (FSA) staff will be happy to help you with this verification, but your farming plans and needs from year to year are not known by FSA. If you wish to cancel your crop insurance policy that was effective for 1996, you must file a written request by the crop insurance sales closing date. For further information contact the FSA office at 1030 Village Dr. or call 245-9816. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
