Football Banquet Is ThursdayPublished Wednesday, January 29, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe 1996 football and cheerleader banquet will be held in the elementary cafeteria Thursday night. The lobby will open at 5:50 with video highlight tapes being shown in two areas. The serving line will open around 6:15. The music video highlight tape will be shown at 6:30. The awards program will begin around 7:10 or 7:15, coach Eddie Jackson said. In order to give appropriate time to a large number of seniors, there will be no guest speaker this year, he said. The program will feature individual recognition of each player and cheerleader. Listed below are some of the special awards to be presented. 1)Volunteer of the year -- selected by the coaches based on years of service in our football program. Previous winners were Bruce Baker, William Mullins and James Cannon. 2)Perfect attendance for one, to and three years. 3)Rotary Leadership award -- sponsored by the Prescott Rotary Club and selected by the staff for leadership on and off the field. 4)Kiwanis Scholastic award -- highest grade point average by a senior football player. 5)Lions Club Defensive Lineman award and the Most Improved Player award. 6)Dan Ridling Offensive Lineman award -- selected by the coaches and renamed last year to honor a former Curley Wolf lineman. 7)Purple Heart award -- selection based on comebacks from injuries. 8)Special Teams award -- selection based on a players contributions to all five kicking units. 9)Don Muse Defensive award -- selected for a senior over their three years of varsity football. Tickets for the banquet are $5 per person. Each player should have ticket order forms. A limited number could possibly be purchased at the door on Thursday night, according to Jackson.
