Charles H. Elliott

Charles H. `Charlie' Elliott, 96, of Arkadelphia passed away Saturday, February 8, 1997, in Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia.

He was born July 23, 1900, in Meridan, Miss. He was the son of Charles Gulley and Mary Philip Hackett Elliott. He was the oldest of three boys and one girl.

Mr. Elliott graduated from Arkadelphia High School in 1919. He graduated magna cum laud from Ouachita Baptist University in 1923. He was a football coach, who had been one of Knute Rockney's students.

He was one of the founders and past president of the Community Chest of Arkadelphia. He was a coin and stamp dealer and a lay minister. He was a member of New Life Church in Arkadelphia. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War I.

Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his two brothers, John H. and Lewis Elliott, and a sister, Mary Elliott Evans.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Dorothy Laster Elliott of San Francisco, Calif.; three nephews, John H. Elliott Jr. of Paris, Texas, Lewis Anders Elliott of Kilgore, Texas, and Terry Allen Elliott of Little Rock; six great nieces; three great nephews; one great great nephew; and two great great nieces.

Funeral services were Tuesday, February 11, at Murry-Ruggles Funeral Chapel with Joseph Rowe, Steve Willingham and Jack Elliott officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery by Murry-Ruggles Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
