Harding Receives GrantPublished Wednesday, February 19, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneA million dollar challenge grant from the Mabee Foundation in Tulsa, Okla., has been presented Harding University in Searcy, it was announced February 12. The Mabee grant will be used toward the $14.5 million final phase of Harding's `The Dream Continues' campaign. The campaign is a five-year project with a goal of $58 million to be used for various campus improvements and the unviersity's endowment and annual funds. To meet the conditions of the grant, Harding must secure $4 million in gifts and pledges by January 15, 1998. The $1.45 million final phase of the campaign includes eight capital projects. To date Harding has received $9.5 million in gifts and pledges toward the $14.5 million total. The four yet to be funded include the renovation projects involving Rhodes Fieldhouse and the Olen Hendrix building, housing the School of Nursing and the Department of Family and Consumer Science. Hendrix, a resident of Antoine, is a former Prescott resident. Also to be funded are the expansion of the art center and the construction of a new entrance on the south side of the campus. Harding's relationship with the Mabee Foundation spans more then 40 years. During that time the foundation has provided grants totaling more than $6 million for various projects including the Mabee American Heritage Center and the school's two largest classroom buildings, the Mabee Business Center and the McInteer Bible and World Missions Center.
