OBU Registration Aug. 23

Registration for the 1999 fall semester of classes at Ouachita Baptist University (OBU) will be held Monday, August 23, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Evans Student Center and Lile Hall, according to Judy Jones, OBU registrar and director of admissions.

Classes for the fall semester at Ouachita will begin on Tuesday, August 24. The last day to register for classes is August 26.

Residence halls for new students will open at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday August 21. A New Beginnings Convocation for students and parents, faculty and staff is planned for August 21 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. President and Mrs. Andrew Westmoreland will greet the new students and families in the foyer of the Jones Center immediately following the program. A new student orientation period will begin at 4:30 that afternoon with sessions to continue through August 23.

The approximately 450 to 500 new students expected and their 85 student group leaders will go into the homes of faculty and staff meetings for a dessert supper from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on August 21, followed by a new student mixer at 8:30 p.m. in the Tiger Den hosted by the Baptist Student Union.

A Ouachita Community Worship Service is set for Sunday, August 22, at 10:00 a.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. The Westmorelands will host a reception for the new students in their home from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The annual Spotlight on Arkadelphia program is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, in the plaza of Evans Student Center. The event is a get-acquainted time for area merchants and the Ouachita students.

The campus Baptist Student Union (BSU) will host a new student variety show on Thursday, August 26, at 7:00 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. BSU will also sponsor a retreat for all Ouachita students at Camp Paron on Friday and Saturday, August 27 and 28.

Ouachita's faculty and staff and spouses will be guests of the university at a dinner beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, in Evans Student Center. A planning meeting for the OBU faculty and staff is scheduled for the following day, August 20, at 8:00 a.m. in McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center.
