From GMSPublished Wednesday, February 26, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesWe had an unexpected day out of school Thursday, February 13, due to the beautiful snow. We just could not stand it longer, so we went back to school on the following Tuesday. So good to be back in our routine. Wednesday, February 12, the Student Council conducted the monthly assembly. Crowning of the King and Queen was the big moment of the program. Third runner up: the 5th grade candidates, Nikita Briscoe and Marcel Johnson, second runner up: 7th grade candidates, Amber Govan and Walter Hart, first runner up: 6th grade candidates, Amber Webb and Zack Turner and the King and Queen were the 8th grade candidates, Krystal Williams and Wayne House. Cassisdy Allen, Clark County Queen, told the runner ups and the student body how all candidates were winners, as they were selected by their classmates. Cassidy crowned the royal couple and presented the runner-ups with special gifts. Joe Plyler presented Mrs. Sherry Karr with a certificate of appreciation, as she was selected the Faculty membaer of the month. Mrs. Bonnie Ross was presented a dozen roses as the Teacher of the year. Mrs. Hitt's Jr. High Chorus sang a special song "Moment in Time, to Mrs. Ross. A member of the press, J.T. Tarpley, interviewed her with several unusual questions. She was a good sport and endured the interview with flying colors. Citizen students were: 5th grade, Anthony McPeak; 6th grade, Rebecca Stephens; 7th grade, Rebekah Giles; and 8th grade Angie Long. These students will be treated to a pizza lunch with Mr. Alexander. Students that attended the Governor's Youth Conference, Chris Williams, Ryan Webb, Katrina Simpson, Candice Buck, T'Nesha Burton, and Stephanie Childres, explained why they attended the Conference and what they learned while attending. They involved the audience in various activities. Mrs. Franklin, Counselor attended the Conference with these students and praised each of them for their hard work and dedication to the opportunity. The Valentines, Luv Pops, balloons, bears, and flowers were delivered to students Tuesday and were enjoyed as much as if they were delivered on Valentine's day. The Student Council, with help of a donation, gave each student in GMS a Valentine, lollipop, and chocolate kisses to make certain that everyone received something. The Council appreciated the donation and support. As always, you are always welcome to come for a visit. Thank you for your support and concern as we constantly make those Classy Moments at GMS.
