Thelma Elizabeth CarterPublished Wednesday, February 26, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesThelma Elizabeth Carter, 91, died Wednesday, February 19, 1997, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. She was born March 9, 1905, in Bonham, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Edgar Henry and Celeta Susy Farlis Smart. She was a retired employee of Hollywood Vassarette and a member of the St. Andrew Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar W. Carter, one grandson, Steven Brown Carter and one son-in-law, Sammy Joe Wade. Survivors include one son and his wife, Lloyd `Skeeter' and Barbara Carter of Shreveport, La.; one daughter, Mary Sue Wade of Arkadelphia; three sisters, Dot Natelie of Huntsville, Texas, Flo Blaylock of Weatherford, Texas, and Ola McClure of Knox City, Texas; six grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Graveside services were held Friday, February 21, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Gill Sills officiating. Interment was under the direction of Murry-Ruggles Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
