Local Extension Club MeetsPublished Wednesday, February 26, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesThe Whelen Springs Extension Homemakers Club met Thursday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. at the East Whelen Baptist Church. There were ten members present, answering the roll call with "what food could we add to our diet to make it healthier." Judy Daniels gave the morning devotional. The program "Take Heart" was presented by Betty Robbins. She presented information on the cuases of heart disease and ways which could decrease chances and/or the risks of heart disease. Just by taking your waist measurement and dividing it by your hip measurement (no guessing--actual numbers here) you can find out if you're at risk for heart disease. If the answer is above .80 then you're at a greater risk than those below .80 for having heart disease. All this information shows that a change is needed. To get started on this change, the "Whelen Springers" walking group was formed. The members that can will walk every morning (except Sundays) for approximately one mile. If you're interested in joining for a morning stroll you may contact Lynn at 353-6301 or Alice at 353-6361 for more information. Nedra Williams served the group some delicious refreshments. After the health smart program the group felt almost quilty for eating those treats, or at least should have. Mrs. Louisa Stone amazed everyone with different quilt blocks she had pieced and also by the sweater she was wearing that she had hand knitted. Lynn LeMay shared some quick and easy Easter ideas that she had created. The Clark County Fair Board will be hosting their annual Chili Supper fund raiser Friday, Feb. 28 from 4 to 7 in the EHC Kitchen. Club members that would like to, are asked to bring a desert by the EHC Kitchen by 3 p.m. Friday for the dinnner. Lynn said she'd be going. If you'd like her to carry your desert, have it at her house before 2 p.m. Friday. Please do not bring items that need refrigeration. The Clark County EHC members will host a dinner to honor the Manchester and Hartsville EHC as clubs of the year. This will be held on March 10 at 11 a.m. in the EHC Kitchen at the fairgrounds. Each club member (except those belonging to Manchester and Hartsville Clubs) are to bring a dish for a potluck meal to be served around noon. Our next meeting will be Thursday, March 20 at 10 a.m. at the East Whelen Baptist Church. A potluck lunch will be served following the program. If you're interested in joining an Extension Club or would just like to check one out, you are invited to come out, share the moring with us and stay for lunch. Just a reminder, don't forget your Secret Pal on St. Patrick's Day March 17 and Easter comes early March 30th! Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
