Nevada Sets Early Registration

Nevada School will hold its pre-school clinic to register for the 1997-98 kindergarten on Tuesday, March 11, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the library.

All children who will be five years old on or before October 1, who live in the Nevada School District, need to be registered.

Arkansas law requires that an official birth certificate from the Department of Vital Statistics in the state of the child's birth be presented to the school upon the registration of the child. Application forms are available from the school office or the county health unit.

The law also requires that an up-to-date immunizatiion record be presented showing that the child has been immunized for DPT, red (rubella) measles and rubella.

Before entering school, a parent must also bring proof of a physical examination that has been done within one year of the date of enrollment. This document must be signed by the child's physician or by the county health nurse. The child's social security number and Medicaid card if the child is covered by Medicaid are also required.

A visit to a kindergarten classroom has been planned for the children registering, so the children should attend the pre-school clinic.

Arkansas standards mandate the number of students who will be in each kindergarten classroom, so if it is not possible to attend the pre-school clinic, notify the elementary office immediately. The school must know how many children will be attending kindergarten next year.

In addition to the school registration physicals, the Southwest Education Co-op, Early Childhood personnel will be on hand to screen children ages three to five for vision, hearing and development.

Current Headstart parents will register their child at the night parent meeting on Tuesday, March 11, at 6:00 p.m. Parents wishing to enroll children for the 1997-98 Headstart year will also register 8:30-2:00 on Tuesday, March 11.
