Bryan Earns Award

The Auburn Alumni Association announces that Dr. Barry J. Bryan, assistant professor in the School of Accountancy, has been selected a 1996-97 Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award recipient.

This award, considered the highest honor for teaching on the Auburn University (AU) campus, is presented annually on the basis of superior teaching ability and service to students. The presentation was made at a reception honoring the Alumni Professors and Alumni Academic Scholars on February 28.

Professor Bryan was nominated by Dean C. Wayne Alderman of the College of Business, Dr. J. Ford Laumer, director of undergraduate studies in the College of Business, Ms. Carrie Chaffin, a graduate of the School of Accountancy from Austin, Texas, and Ms. Lisa Perry, also a graduate of the School of Accountancy from Memphis, Tenn.

Professor Bryan, appointed to the AU faculty in 1994, teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in auditing and financial accounting.

A native of Gurdon, he holds the BSBA and MBA degrees from the University of Arkansas and the Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.

Since joining the faculty, he has been the recipient of the Outstanding Teaching Award in the College of Business, a two-time winner of the Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Teacher Award in the School of Accountancy, Mortar Board Favorite Educator, Cardinal Key Outstanding Faculty Member, Auburn Panhellenic Council Teacher Award, and `Camp War Eagle' Faculty Honoree Award.

At Camp Bryan, one of eight summer sessions, Dr. Bryan served as faculty host for over 400 entering freshmen.

Dr. Bryan has also been honored with teaching awards at Texas A&M University prior to his appointment at Auburn.

Recognized as an outstanding public speaker, Dr. Bryan has conducted professional education courses for public accounting firms and CPA societies in Alabama, Georgia, Texas and Ohio. He was also recently recognized as one of the nation's leading instructors for the Convisor-Duffy CPA Review course in auditing.

His research on audit quality and auditing education has been published in leading academic and practitioner journals in the United States, Great Britian and Australia.

Dr. Bryan serves as faculty advisor to The Omicron Delta Kappa Society, which sponsors the annual homecoming events, and the James E. Foy Sportsmanship Trophy, which is awarded annually to the winner of the `Iron Bowl' football game between Auburn and the University of Alabama.

He was the featured speaker for the Student Government Association's annual High School Leadership Conference. In addition, he serves on many university-wide committees and has participated on the program of Auburn Alumni Club meetings in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and Texas.

Auburn University is Alabama's land-grand university. Located in Auburn, with an enrollment of over 22,000 students, AU offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in twelve colleges.
