Pioneer EHC Has MeetingPublished Wednesday, March 12, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesThe Pioneer Extension Homemakers Club meet February 11 in the newly decorated home of Alice Sorrells in the Hollywood Community. Fifteen members were present with one visitor. Ruby Rollins, club president,opened the meeting with all reciting the pledge of allegiance and the thought for the day. The devotional was given by Alice Sorrells, a poem, "God Said No." Alice Thompson gave the program "Risk Factors for heart Disease. Eight members read from a big read heart heart risks: 1. Take Heart Take Action. Quit smoking. Women who smoke are two to four times more likely to get heart disease. 2. Eat less fat, more fiber for heart's sake. 3. Exercise regularly, three hours weekly. 4. Maintain ideal weight. 5. Get regular medical checkups. 6. Learn more. 7. Diabetes can greatly increase your risk of a heart attack. The club plans to make 35 bibs for Beverly's Rehabilitation Center by our next meeting, second Tuesday in March. The club will meet on that date at Betty Rameriz's home at 1:30 p.m. Four volunteers baked four cakes to be auctioned off during the chili supper for the Clark County Fair Board. Mildred Suggs, Louise Atha, Ruby Rollins and Mae Thompson need to have the cakes at the kitchen by 3:00-3:30 p.m. Cakes for the Convalescent Center for the birthday party (last Wednesday in each month) will be baked by Betty Rameriz, Virginia Wilson, and Allie Thompson. It was announced that Louise Atha will chair the Clark County Extension Homemakers' Christmas Tour of Homes in December 1997. All members were to send a valentine to a friend or loved one. It was announced that a potluck will be given for the two clubs that won the EHC contest for the most new members in 1996. Hartsville and Manchester Clubs were the winners.
