Artesian Arts And LettersPublished Wednesday, September 1, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayunePenny Richards This is the first of what will be a regular column (some weeks) of the Artesian Arts League. While we will use the column to announce and solicit participation for upcoming events, to educate people as to what the arts really are (Yes, Virginia, there is art beyond Mozart and Picasso!), we also want to acknowledge people who have been recognized in some areas of the arts. If you publish a poem or article, win a poster or essay contest, snag the lead role in a production, or have excelled in anyway in any area of arts, send the information to me at the address below. Teachers, this is your chance to give your students a pat on the back and the community a chance to share their pride. Annual meeting: Don't forget the annual meeting and membership drive at 8 p.m. on September 7 at Prescott City Hall. Anyone any age, interested in any area of the arts is encouraged to attend. We have different levels of membership. Anyone who joins and refers a potential member who joins by October 1 will receive a free ticket to an upcoming event. Poetry reading: We're still looking for people to participate in our first coffee/poetry reading to be held Saturday, September 18, at 10 a.m. at Prescott City Hall. All ages are encouraged to participate. Poets who wish to read must contact me or another arts league member by September 10. The event is free to the public. Don't write poetry, but like to drink coffee? Come and listen. Teachers encourage students. Table topper: Our fall fund-raiser, a table topper, luncheon is set for October 16. Participating businesses or individuals who sponsor a table must decorate it in accordance with this year's theme, Celebrating Autumn's Bounty, and are also responsible for selling tickets for their table. Luncheon guests vote for their favorite table. The winner receives $50. Ticket price includes the meal, entertainment and door prizes. This is a good way for local businesses to advertise and show support for the arts. Anyone interested in sponsoring a table or who would like more information, contact Judy Duke at 887-5506 or Melva Morman at 887-3739. For the poetry reading or to pass on art-related news, call Penny Richards at 887-6241 or mail info to 324 E. Main, Prescott. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
