Accident Leaves Three DeadBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, August 4, 1999 in the Gurdon Times A two-vehicle accident left three dead, including a three-year-old child. The accident occurred around 11 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at the 58 mile marker of Interstate-30. According to information from the Arkansas State Police, troop K out of Hot Springs, a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Sidney Ray Kitchens, 71, of Del Ray, California, was traveling east on I-30. A 1997 Volkswagen, driven by Jarvis Rogers Sr., 28, of El Paso, Texas, was westbound on I-30 at the same time. Kitchens, according to the report, was headed the wrong way on I-30, and his vehicle hit the Rogers vehicle head on. Kitchens was killed in the wreck, as were Frances A. Rogers, 29, of El Paso and Everett Rogers, 3. While the two adults were pronounced dead at the scene, the toddler was transported to Arkansas Children's Hospital, where he died at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31. Jarvis Rogers Sr., Jarvis Rogers Jr., 5, and Thelonious Paige, 7, also of El Paso, were injured in the wreck. A blood sample was taken for Kitchens as a matter of routine, and sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab where a blood alcohol test will be done.
