Jones Wins County Spelling BeePublished Wednesday, March 19, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneJessica Jones, a fifth grade student at Emmet Elementary School, recently became the overall spelling champion of Nevada County. Jones was also the first place winner for her grade. On February 25, the county-wide spelling bee was held at Nevada School. There were nine students from Emmet who participated, including fifth graders Jessica Jones, Lenora Leisure and Haley Muldrow; sixth graders Kendrick Fore, Ashley Hodges and Johnathon Korenek; seventh grader Courtney Pulliam; and eighth graders Addam Esada and Lee Harris. Hodges tied for third place in the sixth grade division. Lenora Leisure won second place in the fifth grade. Jones will be traveling to the University of Central Arkansas at Conway on March 22 to participate in the statewide spelling bee. She is the daughter of David and Kelly Jones of Emmet.
