Program AttendedPublished Wednesday, March 19, 1997 in the Gurdon TimesDelores Hodge attended the ninth annual National HIPPY (Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters) conference held in San Diego, Calif., March 9-12 at the Westin Horton Plaza Hotel. The conference was sponsored by the HIPPY USA Programs. Coordinators from across the nation were in attendance. The theme of the conference was `Touching Today's Families for a Better Tomorrow.' The purpose of the conference was to train coordinators with new strategies for working with home visitors and curriculum changes for children 3-5 years of age. Some of the topics covered were: `The ABC'S of HIPPY Grant-Writing,' `Creating Partnership with Parents, Teachers and the School Community, `The Brand New Age 5 HIPPY Curriculum' and the `Whole Language Approach to learning.' Highlighting the conference were remarks and greetings given by Dr. Avima Lombard, the founder of HIPPY and HIPPY International. Other featured speakers included Dr. Miriam Westheimer, executive director, HIPPY USA, and Dr. Shirley Weber, associate professor, San Diego State University. Another outstanding feature of the conference was an afternoon of fun in the sun. A tour of key attraction in the San Diego area and a visit to `Old Town' was very enjoyable.
