Four On Relief Team

Published Wednesday, March 26, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune

Following the devastating tornado of March 1, which left many homeless in Arkadelphia, Nevada County residents came to their aid.

Judy Shackelford, Maxine Freeman, Donald Ingersoll and Betty Turner worked with the Arkansas Disaster relief team and the Red Cross to prepare and serve hot meals to the homeless and volunteers who were helping clean up after the storm.

Ingersoll also helped in the cleaning up and roofing work.

In February the Arkansas Brotherhood Department of the Southern Baptist Convention offered a Disaster Relief course at First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. These four, along with Patricia Ingersoll, had only recently completed the course when the opportunity to use the training came.

Betty Cagle and Patricia Ingersoll also worked.

Southern Baptist prepares and assists the Red Cross in serving about 90 percent of the meals given to the homeless during times of disasters.
