PHS Takes 3rd In Relays

Published Wednesday, April 2, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune

In spite of threatening weather on March 18, the second annual Prescott March Relays was a huge success.

There were over 30 schools that showed up for a great day of competition, coach Eddie Jackson said. Last year's meet was in "ice box" weather.

So many of the records established last week were not outstanding, but with better weather all 17 event records were broken in the girls' division, he said.

In the men's divsion 14 of the 17 were new records, including Jason Morrow in the vault with a 13-foot, 8-inch vault and the 4x400 relay team of Jason and Jeremy Morrow, Channing Butler and Cedric Flemons.

Coach Jackson said besides the records established and state qualifying athletes' performances, it was a great meet for team points.

In the men's competition, Mineral Springs was first with 81 points, Stamps second with 78 and the Wolves were third with 77 points.

Prescott was five points from winning the meet and didn't enter all of the events, because of illness and other reasons.

Beebe and Lakeside fought it out in the girls' division with the Lady Badgers capturing the team trophy.

Listed below are the scoring performances for the Wolves.

  • 1600-meter: J. Morrow, third place with a time of 5:02.04.

  • 110-meter hurdles: Butler, first place with a new record of 15.85 seconds; and Flemons, second place with 16.03 seconds.

  • 4x200-meter: Prescott team, fifth place with a time of 46.06.

  • 4x400-meter relay: Prescott team, first place with a time of 3:34.22.

  • Long jump: Flemons, second place with a leap of 20'11".

  • Discus: Burton, second place with a throw of 135'7".
