Threats Land Man In JailBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, April 2, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune A man with a history of mental illness is being held in the Nevada County Jail on charges of terroristic threatening. Larry Frazier recently appeared before Eighth Judicial District Circuit/Chancery Judge Joe Griffin after making threats to employees at the Prescott Post Office. Griffin attempted to talk with Frazier, who didn't seem to grasp the seriousness of his situation. The judge then appointed him a public defender for future representation. Frazier reportedly went into the Post Office demanding the clerks give him his check, telling them he was armed and threatening to shoot them. He was ordered not to go back to the Post Office, but later did, which resulted in his being arrested and placed in jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 7. Frazier had been a resident of the Split Rail Residential Care Facility. Colette Bishop also made a first appearance before the judge in connection with the burning of a house in Rosston. Bishop informed the court she could not afford an attorney and was given public defender Jim Pedigo as counsel. She has been charged with arson in the burning of a house owned by Jerry Bishop. She and her estranged husband, Ramon Bishop, Jerry's son, had been living in the house at the time of the fire. This is a class B felony, carrying a sentence of five to 20 years in prison and a fine of no more than $15,000. She is scheduled to return to court May 7 for a pretrial hearing, with a trial date of May 19. These are the same court dates for Toby Craig, one the accused killers of Jakie McKinnon. In other cases, Damon Albert made his first appearance after being charged with possession of a controlled substance, cocaine, and a second count of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana. The marijuana charge is a class A misdemeanor, while the cocaine charge is a felony. He, too, was appointed Pedigo as his public defender and given a pre-trial date of June 12 with a trial to begin June 23. If found guilty, Albert faces a sentence of four to 10 years in prison. The marijuana charge could land him a year in the county jail and fine of no more than $1,000. James Giles was also arraigned recently, and also on charges of possession of a controlled substance, namely cocaine, a class C felony. He, too, had a second possession charge for marijuana. Giles entered a plea of not guilty and told the court he would hire his own attorney. Griffin told him to get a lawyer hired quick and gave him a pre-trial appearance of May 7, with a May 19 trial date. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
