Although the Festival of Two Rivers has been canceled for this year, the 5k run and the Andy Allison Super Kids Mile is still on. The races will be held this Saturday.

Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. for the 5k run.

The 5k run will begin at 8:00 a.m. Runners will need to meet in the same area as in years past: the courthouse. The race will begin at the courthouse and finish will be at the railroad depot as in the past.

The major event for the kids will begin at 10:00 a.m. for registration at Sixth and Clay, the normal place.

Races for the youngsters will be staggered as will the length they run.

The devastating tornado that hit Arkadelphia March 1 tore up most of the area where the race will be held, but the running course has been cleaned off for the races.

Entry fee for the 5k run, which will include runners, walkers and wheelchair participants, is $12 in advance. On race day the fee will be $15. The entry fee includes the traditional t-shirt. Those not wishing to receive a t-shirt will pay $7 to enter the race.

There are several catagories in each division.

Awards for the adult races will be given at 10:00 downtown.

Entry fee for those running in the Andy Allison Super Kids Mile is $5 per person.

Children one to four years old will begin running the quarter mile at 12:00 noon. The tiny ones, of course will have to be accompanied by an adult, and, in some cases, pushed in a stroller.

Five- and six-year-old kids will begin their half mile race at 12:15.

Those seven and eight years old will begin their mile at 12:30; the nine- and 10-year-olds at 12:45 and the 11- and 12-year-olds at 1:00. All these races are one mile long.

The finish line is on the parking lot of Elk Horn Bank drive-through, adjacent to the starting point.

All courses will be closed to traffic during the racing.

The racing events are sponsored by Club Arkadelphia Runners, Elk Horn Bank, Piggly Wiggly, Dan Cook's and Baptist Medical Center.
