Center Awarded Two Grants

Published Wednesday, August 11, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

Hours of Joy Child Care, Inc. received two DHS grants and one Juvenile Justice Grant. HOJCC received one of the top scores in ratings. The grants will serve DHS clients in 10 regional counties. HOJCC has been in operation since 1985 and serves many children and operates from three facilities: 221 Main, Arkadelphia; 501 East Main, Gurdon; 502 Bell Street, Gurdon. We are soliciting matching of $2400 to help operate these programs. Your support will greatly be appreciated. These programs will run for one year.

The "Community Based Services" grant will provide tutoring, mentoring, case management, and other informational services. Local patrons may take advantage by referring students to our program for free tutoring in math, science and Computer activities.

The "Disproportionate Minority Confinement" will help decrease the number of minority youth being sent to lock-up facilities. This grant will allow us to house children in our facility on weekends at no charge. Youths will be given classes and counseling sessions and positive reinforcement. Parents can also recommend youths for these services.

The "Parenting Education" grant will provide for parenting classes at no cost to parents or DHS.

We want to provide opportunities for our youth.
