Published Wednesday, April 9, 1997 in the Nevada County Picayune

A statewide anti-litter campaign has been organized for Arkansas in an effort to mobilize county residents and influence their attitudes towards littering and illegal dumping.

The pick-up Arkansas campaign efforts is designed around Earth Day, April 22 and scheduled for April 19-May 4. There are 75 county coordinators who have been appointed to organize cleanup at roadsides, parks and illegal dumps statewide.

Susie Key has been named campaign coordinator for Nevada County. She will be assisted by co-coordinators Chad Cornelius and Julie Stockton. They will be working with Quorum Court members, schools, civic groups, media and county Judge James Roy Brown in a commitment to clean-up Nevada County. Support will be essential to get this task accomplished.

Key will be requesting each Quorum Court member to appoint a district co-ordinator to organize the pickup campaign in their area.

According to Key the kick-off for the county will be Saturday, April 19, with a countywide pickup and trash disposal.

"Not only do we want to clean all county roadways but also the City of Prescott and we want to encourage residents to adopt a highway," stated Key.

Nevada County contains 996 miles of county road and approximately 250 miles of state hgihways Anyone interested in adopting-a-mile of highway can contact the Arkansas Highway Department at 777-3457.

We will need the assistance of everyone in the county to make this a success and make our county one we will all be proud of.
