Morton PromotedPublished Wednesday, April 9, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneJerry Don Morton has been named area business manager of Southwestern Electric Power Company in the DeQueen-Mena-Nashville area of SWEPCO's central division in Arkansass. He will be responsible for customer service operations and community involvement activities. Morton had been serving as supervisor of distribution systems in Texarkana since November 1996. Morton assumed these duties after long-time DeQueen area business manager Sammie Cox was named manager of legislative affairs for SWEPCO's legislative efforts in Arkansas in Fayetteville. An 18-year employee, Morton began his career with SWEPCO as a meter reader in Nashville in 1978, and later served as an engineering assistant and senior engineering technician in DeQueen and Nashville. A native of McCaskill, Morton graduated from Blevins High School and earned a bachelor of applied arts and sciences degree in business management from East Texas State University. He currently is working on a masters of business adminstration degree from Texas A&M University in Texarkana. Active in community affairs, Morton has served as president of the Dierks Jaycees and worked for volunteer fire deparatments in Dierks and McCaskill.
