Flood Waters Claim Two In Columbia CountyPublished Wednesday, April 9, 1997 in the Nevada County PicayuneThis weekend's heavy rains cost a Prescott man and his companion their lives. According to reports from the Arkansas State Police, Troop G of Hope, Craig Browning, 36, of Prescott, and Laura Jean Mendenhall, 20, of Cullen, La., were traveling South on U.S. Highway 371 about a mile and a half south of Magnolia at 4:30 a.m. Saturday. Browning drove the 1992 Hyundia into about 10 inches of water flowing across the highway. The vehicle was swept off the road and went underwater. Both people in the car drowned.
