Local Artist's Work To Be Exhibited At Gallery

Art work by Prescott's Spot Daniel will be on display at the Cantrell Gallery in Little Rock.

The exhibit's opening night reception will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, April 11. The exhibit will run through May 10.

Daniel will be present at the reception.

His display, entitled "Outsider Art", refers to the untrained style of those who are self taught. Daniel's paintings are unconventional and distinctly his own expressions, along with being full of humor, according to a release from the Cantrell Gallery.

The subjects of Daniel's paintings are recognizable, but considerably altered. Usually a painting has one figure, such as a grasshopper, peacock, person, fish, old car or bicycle. But there is always something odd about them, which helps make them amusing.

He said if his paintings can make one person smile, then he has done just what he set out to do, along with making himself happy. His paintings are signed with a unique spot within a D -- which adds to the charm of his uninhibited portrayal of figures.

Daniel's work is also featured in a book entitled, "Passing the Outsider Lane". The author (Dan Prince, a self-taught artist himself) has traveled the country for 20 years discovering artists who have, until recently, received only scant attention from the art community and collectors.

The Cantrell Gallery, located at 8206 Cantrell Road in Little Rock, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
