Three Going To Boys State

Three Gurdon High School students have been selected to attend the 57th session of the American Legion Boys State this summer at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway June 1-6.

The students are Ryan Cox, Rusty Freeman and Marcus Timothy Wright, all juniors.

While at Boys State the students will perform mock elections ranging from city to state levels, using fictious cities, counties and districts. They will also make a trip to Little Rock to visit the State Capitol.

To be qualified students must have completed three years of high school successfully.

Wright is the 16-year-old son of Lula and William Wright and attends the Church of God in Vaden, where he is a member of the choir.

He is a member of the Beta Club and he is also on the honor roll.

Wright is a member of the Go-Devils basketball team. He was named to the All-District team and he won and Sportsmanship Awards.

He plans to attend college where he will major in marine biology. His hobbies are collecting basketball cards and swimming.

"I believe Boys State will help me a lot, because it will further my knowledge of America's laws and rights," Wright said in a prepared statement.

Freeman is the 16-year-old son of Judy and Eric Hittenrouch and Tommy Freeman of Gurdon. He is the grandson of Bill and Florence Palmer of Gurdon and Ruby Freeman of Arkadelphia and Hugh Freeman of Delight.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, gifted and talented, Spanish Club and is a third year member of the GHS golf team. He has been an acaedemic letterman for three years.

He is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gurdon.

Freeman is a certified lifeguard and enjoys playing the guitar as a hobby. He also enjoys hunting and other sports.

Cox is the 16-year-old son of Paul Cox and the late Alice Cox. He is the grandson of Delton and Hester Forthman and Norma Cox and the late Arthur Cox.

Cox is a member of the Beta Club and the F.F.A. His hobbies are fishing and hunting.

He is a member of First Assembly of God Church of Gurdon.
